Designs Steeped in Heritage

The History of the Chelsea Summerhouse

Chelsea Summerhouse Designs are steeped in heritage. They are the very finest of traditional garden retreats, with designs dating back over 100 years.  Chelsea Summerhouses Limited was established in May 2011, following the demise of Amdega Limited. The two Directors of Chelsea Summerhouses had over 36 combined years working for Amdega and recognised that Amdega’s best product was the ‘Chelsea’ range of garden buildings.

In 1989 Amdega purchased a company called L F Knight of Reigate, a company that had been manufacturing garden buildings and exhibiting at Chelsea Flower Show since the early 1900’s. These designs have stood the test of time and are the ‘original summerhouse’ that many other companies have tried to imitate. These designs are now manufactured by Chelsea Summerhouses using the original drawings and manufacturing jigs.

Today, every Chelsea Summerhouse is ethically handmade in our workshops using the original Amdega drawings. Time honoured traditions are still cherished but combined with 21st century technology. The ‘Chelsea’ Summerhouse range is the most luxuriant yet traditional range of summerhouses available. With distinct features including high cedar shingled roofs with elegantly cambered eaves and original hand leaded lights made from individual panes of glass. These luxury summerhouses can be insulated and double glazed offering dual use as a garden office, an artist’s studio a garden gym or hobby room for all year round use.  We believe that we offer the best quality and most beautiful summerhouses available; they are built to stand the test of time.
